Traditional Soil maps show general distribution of soils which is accompanied by the survey report. New soils maps are derived from a soil survey report. Such maps are generally richer in context and show higher spatial detail than traditional soil maps.

It is very important to observe the difference between the following types of coil maps:

  • Hand-drawn soil polygon maps representing the distribution of soil types.

What is soil maps used for?

A soil map is a geographical representation showing the diversity of soil types and soil properties i.e. soil pH, textures, organic matter, depths of horizons, in the area of interest. A soil map is usually used to produce statistical technique also include an estimate of the model uncertainty.

Steps regarding soil survey

  1. Define your area of interest in interest bar.
  2. Use soil map tab to describe the soils along with provided images.
  3. Use the explorer tab to get the soil data and know the suitability of the soil for a particular use.

The information in a soil survey can be used by the scientific community as well as the scientific community.

The Web Soil Survey is used to predict or estimate the potentials and limitations of soils. This information is used for many specific purposes. A soil survey also includes an important part of the information that is used to make workable plans for land management.

What is the purpose of Soil surveying?

The objectives of the soil survey are as follows:

  • To describe and classify soils giving uniform systems of classification with uniform nomenclature in order to correlate the soils.
